The 13th of January a new ISO-standard, ISO/TS 18683:2015, was a published in regards to LNG as fuel to ships.

ISO/TS 18683:2015 describes guidelines for systems and installations for supply of LNG as fuel to ships.

MannTek are the first manufacturer world wide to offer a fully compatible series of products under Annex G in this new standard, ISO/TS 18683:2015.

What is ISO?

"ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical committees."

In Energigas magazine nr 3 2014, there´s a article about the world's first bunker ship with LNG, Seagas, that is getting a lot of international attention. In January 2015 the environmental regulations on sulfur emissions in endangered marine environments such as the Baltic and North Sea will be tightened and extended. Later on, the regulations will also require reduced emissions of nitrogen oxide.
Liquefied natural gas, LNG, contains neither sulfur or heavy metals and nitrogen content is around 20% lower than ship fuel MGO.

- We're saving money and the environment and it's as clean as within a hospital, both in the engine room and up on deck . There is no soot at all, said Kari Granberg, project manager of the cruise-ferry Viking Grace, which is run entirely on LNG, to the swedish newspaper Energigas.

AGA´s bunker ship Seagas is loaded with 67 tons or 53 cubic meters of natural gas in liquid form. Safety is important and the procedure is always the same, with the help of a crane, the large hose from Seagas is connected to Viking Grace. The refuelling is then controlled electronically.

The couplings used in this project are exclusively MannTek Dry Cryogenic Coupling and Cryogenic Break-away Coupling.

MannTek is during 3-4 june exhibiting together with dixon at the yearly ILTA conference in Houston. MannTek products for terminal applications are in focus like breakaway couplings used to prevent drive off accidents which in combi ation with the Dixon API load head (coupler) makes a great combination.

Others products shown are for example the 4" aluminium Dry Disconnect Couplings commonly used for crude by rail applications.

Mann Tek at AEGPL Genoa

MannTek are during 13-14 of may   at the AEGPL exhibition in Genoa, Italy. We are showing the full range of Dry Gas and Breakaway Couplings for LPG handling.

Welcome to stand 80-81

We welcome all visitors to stand 80-81 to come and get a presentation of the modern, safe and economical method for LPG transfer.

Read about MannTek couplings

Dry Gas Couplings (DGCouplings) are a further development from the Dry Disconnect Couplings, specially designed to handle LPG.

Safety Break-away couplings (SBCouplings) are used to prevent pull away accidents.

The AEGPL Congress is the event of the year for the European LPG industry, bringing together European and global LPG leaders, buyers and suppliers to Europe’s biggest LPG conference and exhibition to discuss the latest opportunities and challenges facing the sector, network and do business. Visit for further information.

OTC Houson

MannTek is this year as well exhibiting at the OTC (Offshore Technology Conference) in Houston. We are present in Houston together with our US partner Dixon Valve & Coupling Company, where we are showing the full range of dry disconnect couplings and breakaway couplings. Of course is also the Dry Cryogenic Couplings on display for typically use for LNG fuel bunkering.

Come and meet us at stand 1077, welcome!

We would like to thank our partner dixon for a very well organized and performed otc exhibition with lots of interesting leads and requests as result after four days of hard work. Special thanks goes out to Blake Hutchinson for all help, we couldn't done it without you. We'll do it all over again in 2015!

Mann Tek JakartaMannTek has just taken part in the 2014 LNG Asia Summit in Jakarta, Indonesia.
MannTek took part as delegates, speaker and exhibitor showing the range of DCC (Dry Cryogenic Couplings) and CBC ( Cryogenic Breakaway Couplings) which the Asian audience showed great interest in.

Johan Lilliesköld from MannTek also attended as a speaker giving a presentation of the Seagas / Viking Grace project and the bunkering operations using DCC and CBC for highest safety level.

Johan also had the pleasure to act as moderater and leading the panel discussions that followed.

MannTek would like to thank the organizers for a well performed summit and also big thanks to our Indonesian distributor Pt. Usaha Jayamas Bhakti for their support and help during this summit.

Gerhard Kopplin, technical manager at MannTek, has received a price from Energigas Sweden (Swedish Gas Association) for his work in environmental and safety technologies. The justification of the award is that Gerhard Koppling and his colleagues at MannTek have for a long time been working to resolve problems with gas emissions associated with the shipping and handling of liquefied gases; emissions that can pose a security risk and also have a negative impact on the environment. Thanks to the new MannTek Dry Cryogenic Couplings, these emissions can now be prevented.

Gerhard Kopplin, Mann Tek

Originally, the production work was mainly intended for LPG couplings (MannTek Dry Gas Couplings), but the work has continued with the development of couplings for LNG and LBG. Due to the low temperatures down to -196 degrees C, great demands have been made on material as well as technology in order for everything to function as planned. See Seagas LNG bunkering vessel using MannTek LNG/Cryogenic Couplings.

Cryogenic couplings

Recently, the Swedish authorities have set requirements for spill free couplings of the model MannTek manufacturers, Dry Cryogenic Couplings, to be used for the refuelling of the first passenger ferry to run on LNG. The passenger ferry will be in operation for commercial traffic in early 2013. A great deal of work has also been put into international standard organisations. This in turn has resulted in the coupling now becoming a world wide standard.

The honouring price was awarded to Gerhard Kopplin during Gasdagarna in Trollhättan on October 24th, 2012. In addition to the honour, the award included a scholarship of 15 000 SEK.

cryogenic couplings

Dry Cryogenic Couplings (DCCouplings) and Cryogenic Break-away Couplings (CBCouplings) are designed for use wherever it’s beneficial to connect and disconnect hoses and pipelines under pressure, quickly without spillage and additional tools.

Dry Cryogenic Couplings and Cryogenic Break-away Couplings are designed primary for the use of cryogenic liquefied gases, e.g. LNG (-163ºC) and e.g. Nitrogen (-196º), where safety and reliability are of primary concern.
