In July 2015 it was time for North America's and Canada's first LNG ferry, F.A Gauthier launched by STQ, the Société de traversiers du Québec. F.A Gauthier is the largest LNG-propelled-vessel in North America. Mann Tek has provided the dry cryogenic couplings for the bunkering operations for his project.

The trucks deliver the LNG to the FA Gauthier also runs on LNG.

- For this project our products, DCC and CBC, has been enabler for safe, quick and environmentally friendly LNG fuel transfers, says Mann Teks LNG project developer Mr Johan Lilliesköld.

"LNG is a concrete solution for fighting climate change and allows local ship-owners to comply with the increasingly stringent standards regarding polluting emissions on North America's waterways" Gaz Métro development and renewable energies VP Martin Imbleau said in a press realse.
Mr Lilliesköld has been involved in several LNG bunkerings operations prior attending the operation in Québec.
- Since the launch of the world's largest LNG-ferry Viking Grace in Sweden, our products in this segment has really been a success when the need for a fast and safe refuelling is sought after, as well as according to the ISO standard for marine LNG bunkering, says Mr. Lilliesköld.
The F.A Gauthier has a capacity of 800 passengers and 180 vehicles.

Mr Johan Lilliesköld LNG

Mann Tek's LNG business development manager Mr. Johan Lilliesköld will today hold a
lecture for students at WMU, World Maritime University in Malmö, Sweden. The lecture
is about module No.2- Safety of LNG handling on plant, bunkering stations and onboard
vessels; practical LNG bunkering handling.

Johan was the project manager for Seagas, the world's first LNG fuelling vessel, during
her detailed design and construction stage. Including the development and commissioning
of the interface between LNG Seagasand M/S Viking Grace.
He has become a frequent speaker in exhibitions and conferences due to his background
as project manager, technical superintendent and shipboard marine engineer whitin the

Future of LNG

The future of LNG

Mann Tek produces and markets products for the safe and environmentally friendly handling of hazardous fluids. The company´s business development manager for LNG, Johan Lilliesköld, discuss the challenges the oil and gas industry faces in the handling of cryogenics, and the advantages of their innovative cryogenic dry disconnect product.

"LNG contains neither suphur nor heavy metals, and nitrogen content is around 80% lower than ship fuel MGO, pointing towards  great future for LNG to overtake MGO in marine use."

LNG Shell

Dry Cryogenic couplings for Louisiana, USA

Cryogenic couplingEarlier this year, in USA, the first LNG PSV named Harvey energy was taken in operation by Shell and Harvey Gulf International Marine. Mann Tek and our LNG project developer Mr. Johan Lilliesköld has been involved in the project and we delivered the cryogenic couplings for the project.

The vessel operates in the Gulf of Mexico and is the first of its kind in the region to run on both LNG and diesel and within a near future, another five PSV´s is to be taken in operation. The alternative and environmentally friendly fuel is a new alternative for vessel operators and are following the new sulphur and nitrogen oxide emissions regulations as a part of the North American Emission Control Area (ECA).

The vessel will run on 99% LNG fuel and be able to run for seven days before refueling at Harvey Gulf´s new LNG bunkering facility at Port Fourchon, Louisiana.

By using Mann Teks dry cryogenic coupling, the refueling is quick and with no spillage or leakage of LNG. After refueling, the Harvey Energy will go to Shell´s platforms bringing equipment and drilling fluids.

“Shell is delighted to be the customer of this innovative vessel,” said John Hollowell, Executive Vice President, Deep Water, Shell Upstream Americas in their media release from 5th march 2015. “It is a pleasure to partner with Harvey Gulf on this pioneering project. Shell’s investment underlines our confidence in LNG becoming a bigger part of the global fuel mix.”

ISO/TS 18683:2015 describes guidelines for systems and installations for supply of LNG as fuel to ships.

Mann Tek are the first manufacturer world wide to offer a fully compatible series of products under Annex G in this new standard, ISO/TS 18683:2015.

What is ISO?

Energigas

Dry Cryogenic Couplings, exclusively on the worlds first LNG-bunker ship Seagas

In Energigas magazine nr 3 2014, there´s a article about the world's first bunker ship with LNG, Seagas, that is getting a lot of international attention. In January 2015 the environmental regulations on sulfur emissions in endangered marine environments such as the Baltic and North Sea will be tightened and extended. Later on, the regulations will also require reduced emissions of nitrogen oxide.
Liquefied natural gas, LNG, contains neither sulfur or heavy metals and nitrogen content is around 20% lower than ship fuel MGO .

Seagas

- We're saving money and the environment and it's as clean as within a hospital, both in the engine room and up on deck . There is no soot at all, said Kari Granberg, project manager of the cruise-ferry Viking Grace, which is run entirely on LNG, to the swedish newspaper Energigas.

AGA´s bunker ship Seagas is loaded with 67 tons or 53 cubic meters of natural gas in liquid form. Safety is important and the procedure is always the same, with the help of a crane, the large hose from Seagas is connected to Viking Grace. The refuelling is then controlled electronically.

The couplings used in this project are exclusively Mann Tek Dry Cryogenic Coupling and Cryogenic Break-away Coupling.
