The Clean Cow Project
A major difference for sustainable agriculture but handling the chemicals required for the process is no walk in the park. We love a challenge – especially one that helps the planet. MannTek teamed up with our long-term partners at Hydrasun to support a ground-breaking project: the production of a new livestock vitamin designed to reduce methane emissions.

No room for error
The “big picture” here is vital. Methane from livestock is a major contributor to global warming. This brand-new production plant was built to change that, but the process involves transferring chemicals that are both highly corrosive and toxic to humans.
When you’re dealing with road tanker transfers, there is no room for error. The client needed a guarantee that not a single drop would be spilled during the connection or disconnection of hoses. In a brand-new facility with such hazardous media, safety was prior in the project.
A tailored solution
MannTek worked side-by-side with Hydrasun to design a transfer system that could handle the heat (and the acid). We opted for our Dry Disconnect Couplings. These are a true game-changer, offering best-in-class flow rates and much lower connection forces, which makes the operator’s job both easier and safer.
To ensure the equipment could withstand such an aggressive environment, we also supplied:
- Materials: Hose and Tank units (1” to 3”) manufactured in 316L Stainless Steel and Hastelloy C276.
- Sealing: Fitted with Kalrez and PTFE seals for maximum chemical compatibility.
- Safety First: We also supplied Safety Breakaway Couplings in the same high-grade materials. This ensures that if a tanker were to accidentally drive away while still coupled, the line closes instantly – preventing spills and protecting expensive pipework.
Because we have over 20 in-house design engineers, we could tailor the solution specifically for this site. In fact, the client was so impressed that they have now specified MannTek as the site standard.
Safely, efficiently, and without leaks
We are happy to report that the project was delivered right on schedule. The plant has now entered the commissioning phase, and everything is working exactly as intended: safely, efficiently, and without leaks. By reducing spillage to a tiny “smear” upon disconnection, we’ve ensured that the hazardous environment remains under control.
Hydrasun is delighted with the result, and so are we. It’s a perfect example of how great partnerships and smart engineering can solve even the most complex – and corrosive – problems.
